Hand Knit Hearts

This is a great stash buster project.  These are fast to make if you have experience knitting, and even if you are just learning, these really will not take you long to make.

Notes:  M1 R : Use this as a right side increase that slants to the right:

Insert the right needle from the front into the side of the stitch below the next stitch on the left needle, lift it onto the left needle and knit it.  See photo below

M1 R : Use this to make a right side increase, that slants to the right.

M1 L : Use this as a left side increase that slants to the left:

Insert the left needle from the back into the side of the stitch 2 rows below the stitch on the right needle, pull it up and knit into the back of the stitch. See photo below:

Materials

  • worsted weight yarn ( #4 weight)
  • 4 mm knitting needles
  • scissors
  • crochet hook for weaving in ends



Directions

Cast on 3 sts

1st row: purl

2nd row: k1, M1 R, knit across ( 4 sts)

3rd row: purl

4th row: k1, M1 R, knit to last st, M1 L, k1 (6 sts)

rows 5-24 repeat rows 3 and 4 until you have 26 sts.

row 25: Purl 13 sts.  Turn.  ( you will work one half of the top of the heart at a time) Leave 13 sts on the left needle, and come back to them later.  

row 26 (Top Left side of Heart): Knit to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 (12 sts)

row 27: purl

row 28: K1, Sl 1, K1, PSSO ( pass slipped stitch over), knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (10 sts)

row 29: purl

row 30: Knit to last 3 sts, k2 tog, k1 (9 sts)

row 31: purl

row 32: K1, Sl 1, K1, PSSO, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (7 sts)

row 33: purl

row 34: K1, Sl 1, K1, PSSO, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (5 sts)

Bind off.

Join yard to 13 sts on wrong side and purl across

row 26(Top Ride side of Heart): K1, Sl 1, K1, PSSO, knit across, (12 sts)

row 27: purl

row 28: K1, Sl 1, K1, PSSO, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (10 sts)

row 29: purl

row 30: K1, Sl 1, K1, PSSO, knit across (9 sts)

row 31: purl

row 32: K1, Sl 1, K1, PSSO, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (7 sts)

row 33: purl

row 34: K1, Sl 1, K1, PSSO, knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1 (5 sts)

Bind off.

Weave in ends.
