- Worsted Weight Yarn in Red ( 2 balls)
- Size 8 mm knitting needles
- Scissors
- Darning needle
K2tog = Knit two together – a very simple decrease, where you turn two stitches into one. Insert your right-hand needle into the next two stitches on your left-hand needle, and knit them both together. (K2tog)
Directions
Cast on 52 sts
Row 1: *K2, P2; repeat from * across
Repeat row 1 until piece measures 5″ from the cast on edge.Work 2×2 rib for 5 ”
Change to stockinette stitch, and begin with a decrease row: k1, * k5, k2tog; repeat until 2 sts remaining, k2 ( 45 sts)
Purl the next row.
Continue in stockinette stitch, knitting the right side rows, and purling the wrong side rows for another 4″.
Begin to shape the crown by decreasing on the right side rows as follows:
Decrease Row 1: *K7, K2tog; repeat from * across
Row 2: Purl
Row 3: *K6, K2tog; repeat from * across
Row 4: Purl
Row 5: *K5, K2tog; repeat from * across
Row 6: Purl
Row 7: *K4, K2tog; repeat from * across
Row 8: Purl
Row 9: *K3, K2tog; repeat from * across
Row 10: Purl
Row 11: *K2, K2tog; repeat from * across
Row 12: Purl
Bind off, securing the last stitch.
Break yarn, leaving a long tail and sew up the seam.
Trim yarn and weave in all ends.
